I never had heard of a jaw harp until this past month, and with some internet browsing I came upon this website - leading me to my first purchase - the North Indian asymmetrical morsing. My only recommendations for improvement is packaging... I opened up the delivered package and all there was to support the morsing and complimentary lip harp was a single piece of paper. My morsing wasn't even touching the wooden protection block! That aside, thanks!!

Michel Saarland 2011-12-23 08:06:55	Hi, vielen Dank für die schnelle Lieferung. Die Bass Dan-Moi ging gleich gut ab, die Bügeltrommel erforderte etwas mehr Geschick. Das Spielen beruhigt richtig den Geist und Körper, sodaß ich gestern Abend fast vorm Heizlüfter auf dem Boden eingeschlafen wäre. Musik und Notenlernen war früher in der Schule immer ein Graus, doch mit diesem intuitiven Gerät ist das ein anderer Planet. Gruß und "Frohe Weihnachten" an Alle... Michel

I want to ask if you know this etimologies, because it seems that the name "guimbarda" have a paralell with arabic and spanish forms in similar words... so how old is this great instrument? in wich books of history appears this instruments? DAN MOI 2011-12-15 10:46:20	Hello Amigo, the Susu has nothing to do with the instruments called Jew's harps. It is just another product in our catalog which includes not only Jew's harps. The other part of your question refers to the name Jew's harp itself. Indeed, there seems to be no historical connection to Jewish culture or people. But its the most common and one of the correct English expressions for it (see: http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/british/jew-s-harp or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jew%27s_harp). The ethymologists are not quite sure about the origin of the "Jew's" part. Some suggest that it comes from "jaw" or even from "juice" (because of the high salivation while playing), but there is no ethymological evidence. It is also interesting that English is the only language worldwide with that misleading expression for this instrument. Other languages usually use terms which can be translated as "mouth harp", "mouth drum" or "lip instrument". We decided to use the word "Jew's harp", because it is the most common one in English language. Thank you for your thoughts, Oli from DAN MOI

Von Euren Instrumenten, dem super Service, von Euch, dem ganzen Team und dem unerschöpflichen Klangreichtum dieser faszinierenden Instrumente. Eigentlich müßte Euer Laden "GEILE TEILE - das Ding mit Suchtpotential" heißen. Doch "DAN MOI" ist international, dank Euch, ein Begriff geworden. Toll, daß es Euch gibt. Rod Parsons 2011-12-15 10:46:20	I just found this site and it is very tempting. I learned to play the mouth harp on a big old English iron bass model that used to languish in my father's bureau. Ashamed to admit that I was involved in the shambles that was Harvey Matusow's Jews Harp Band back in the late 1960's. Walked away out of sheer embarassment and frustration. But last year I was at a re-enactment and bought a reproduction of a Viking mouth harp and it got me thinking about one day doing something that I might find interesting. Those chromatic sets are something, not being a musician I never knew what key I was in, if asked I might just venture "Yale?" and hope it got a laugh. Might buy a singleton in that make and see if I like it before splurging on a whole set. When I got the Viking one I must have sucked air through every one on the stand until I found a live one that I was happy with. I wonder when the sets will be back in stock? Rod.

I've just ordered some overtone flutes and will be ordering again. Quality, affordable and authentic ethnic instruments. Well done. It's far more satisfying than dealing with some of the larger 'shipping warehouse' type internet instrument shops. Regards from Ireland.

Alexander 2011-12-15 10:46:20	I ordered from you the wooden Slovenian drymbla. It isn't so suitable for play, even after the tuning I did. The main reason is that the space between the tongue and the body is too big. I'm just keeping it as a souvenir.
DAN MOI 2011-12-15 10:46:20	Hello Alexander, You are right, the space between the tongue and the frame is quite big which makes the sound a little bit silenced. It is hard to find a good Jew's Harp with a wooden frame. The wood also silences the sound due to its vibration characteristics. Anyway, it's a good alternative for people who want to play a "tooth jew's harp" in a comfort way for a cheap price. There is only one wooden frame tooth jew's harp which comes close to the metal frame sound. It is the Vietnamese MHV-1 for 26.90 EUR.

aine bell 2011-12-15 10:46:20	hello what an amazing site.i bought my first jew's harp in sicily at the age of 9.i am now 39 and my partner bought me a new jews harp for christmas this year.i was delighted as i haven't played since i was 17.it is great to be able to hear all the different types of harps and now i can up grade when i want as it was very hard to find the harps in ireland.thank you
