Iwachu
Tradition and innovation
IWACHU is a renowned manufacturer of Nambu-Tekki (cast ironware) with roots dating back to the Edo period. During this time, the ironware culture of Morioka flourished alongside the development of the tea ceremony. Under the patronage of the local Nambu clan, the craft was refined and the fame of Nanbu-Tekki spread throughout the country. Since its founding in 1902, IWACHU has preserved the 400-year tradition of Nanbu-Tekki while developing products that fit seamlessly into modern life.
IWACHU combines traditional craftsmanship with modern designs and colors to create products that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Manufacturing and craftsmanship
The production of Nanbu-Tekki at IWACHU is a laborious process involving around 65 steps, most of which are done by hand. The natural iron used can be returned to nature after use, which underlines the sustainable thinking of the company. The products develop a unique patina over time and adapt to the lifestyle of their users. It takes an experienced craftsman at least 15 years to master the necessary skills.
