This wonderful Jaw Harp is made by a Russian blacksmith who works under the psydonym Taras and has an impressive know-how. So the Vargan Taras is finished in an above average fashion. Its heavy frame lies comfortably in the hand and despite its massive shanks this Vargan looks very elegant. Because its design is reminiscent of Art Deco style with its clear form, which is based on the interplay of curves and defined lines. Very aesthetic!
The sharpened reed of the Vargan Taras is rather taut and firm. Due to the very precisely worked reed and the strong shanks, which provide excellent stability when playing, it is particularly suitable for powerful, dynamic rhythms. All modulation possibilities can be realised with it and it can be plucked both forward and backward. Its extremely loud, intense and full sound is rich in overtones. The vibrations are gently transferred to the whole head.
The Vargan Taras is recommended both for beginners and for experienced performers due to its easy playability and super sound quality.
Care instructions: The polished frame tends to superficial rust. If you dry this precious instrument well with a cloth after playing and maintain it regularly, the Vargan Taras will stay shiny without much effort.
Russia is a country with a handful of jaw harp traditions: in Sakha/Yakutia, in the Altai, and in Tuva the Khomus (or Komus) is played; in Bashkortostan the Kubyz is known, and in Western Russia and in the big cities such as Moscow and St. Petersburg one can hear the name Vargan. An overview.
