Made entirely of stainless steel, this Japanese Jaw Harp from the workshop of Yoshua Kouchi is a great choice for those who don't want to worry about rust.
Its frame is made of bent and forged SUS304 stainless steel, a material used in medical instruments and in dishwashing sinks, among others. The surface is roughly ground and polished, so it retains the hammered look. Otherwise, however, the frame feels slender, delicate but very sturdy.
The reed of the Koukin Kouchi Chu was cut from a stainless steel knife. The thickness of the tongue has been finely adjusted to produce a firm and balanced vibration and a long reverberating sound.
The sound of this Jaw Harp can be described as compact and subtle, but at the same time penetrating. We classify its volume in the upper middle.
The lower part of the case is made of douglas fir wood. On top there are plywood parts that hold the JawHharp. You can wrap the case with a strip of synthetic leather and a string to close it.
