In Uzbekistan, as in all of Central Asia, the jaw harp has a centuries-old tradition. On the one hand it was used for shamanic healing rituals and on the other hand it was of course used as a musical instrument, as it is still today.
The Chang Qobyz "Bronza" requires some playing experience, only then the unique sound can be lured out in its full scope. But then one is rewarded with an extremely overtone-rich, soft - almost filigree - sound, which nevertheless captivates with its loud, dynamic and yet fine presence. And this although it has a rather taut, slim tongue. The Bronza jaw harp sounds even better than its beautiful, rustic and yet graceful finish might suggest. Therefore we are enthusiastic about this Uzbek masterpiece and can recommend it unreservedly for advanced players!
