Chang Qobyz Chaqmoq

Rarity from Uzbekistan

Among the oldest instruments in the world are the jaw harps of the Turkic peoples, who are living in Uzbekistan, too. Scientists believe that mouth harps have been used in shamanic healing rituals by countless generations. Rhythm and sound of the instrument is said to activate the recovery of the ill.

This traditional jaw harp was bought at a market in Samarkand. It shows particularly beautifully the old handicraft of the Uzbek smiths. Old days are conjured up by the archaic construction of this jaw harp, the symbolic tongue in the form of a thunderbolt and by the traditional material - iron. If you play on this Chang Qobyz you will hear overtone-rich, very soft - rather low sounds, which make you dream of the old Silk Road and its adventures.
