n Uzbekistan, as in all of Central Asia, the jaw harp has a centuries-old tradition. On the one hand it was used for shamanic healing rituals and on the other hand it was of course used as a musical instrument, as it still is today.
The Chang Qobyz "Damir" requires some playing experience, only then the unique sound can be lured out in its full scope. But then one is rewarded with an extremely overtone-rich, soft - almost filigree - sound, which nevertheless captivates with its loud, dynamic and yet fine presence. And this although it has a rather hard, slim tongue. The Damir jaw harp sounds even better than its beautiful, rustic and yet graceful finish might suggest. Therefore we are enthusiastic about this Uzbek masterpiece and can recommend it unreservedly! The jaw harp can be practically stored and transported in the wonderful hand-carved wooden box in the shape of a wise man.
