Chang Qobyz - Kultan

Rare Jaw Harp from Uzbekistan

The jaw harps of the Turcic people (like the Uzbeks) are among the world's oldest musical instruments. Researchers assume that the jew's harp has been ritually used by shamans for many hundreds of years. The sounds of the Chang Qobyz is believed to support the healing process of diseases.

This relatively large but elegant Uzbek jaw harp has a rather heavy brass frame, which captivates with its plain but particularly aesthetic proportions and the separated, milled playing zone. The rather soft, but dynamic tongue is sharpened in the playing zone, which helps this beautiful instrument to loud, sharp sounds and fine harmonics.
