Ocean Drum
The classical ocean drum is an enchanting instrument. It is possible to explore all nuances of rushing (the sound of the sea) with this round drum which is covered on both sides with a drumhead. When holding it vertically you play it like any other frame drum. This way you are holding a sound effect instrument as well as a percussion instrument in your hand.
A contemporary version of the ocean drum is our flat shaker pad. Completely made of wood it can rush, too, but also shake and buzz. The powerful pads sound when moved slowly, and they set the rhythm when they are struck. You can even elicit bass tones from the shaker pad. And for advanced players it is not a problem to combine several sound and playing techniques. Have fun trying out and fiddling around!
