The standard record of Yakutian Jaw Harp music!
Ivan Alexeyev, the founder of the largest Jaw Harp museum of the world in Yakutsk, put the image of the Khomus in East Siberia back on the map in the 1970s. Together with Spiridon Shishigin (probably the most famous Jaw Harp player in Europe) he founded a traditional Jaw Harp ensemble. He was very successful in bringing back this national instrument back to the culture of the Siberian people after it had almost been eradicated under Soviet policy. Today the Khomus has gottten back to its deserved role as an important part of the Yakutian culture - the female counterpart to the shaman drum.
Both world famous musicians are giving us a comprehensive view into the playing techniques and old songs of their people.
Recorded 1993 and produced 1996 by Leo Tadagawa.
