This jaw harp in the shape of a fly agaric was forged by master Gimadiev from Tatarstan. The intoxicating effect of the mushroom has probably been used for thousands of years by the most diverse ethnic groups for relaxation. Siberian shamans, on the other hand, need the hallocinogen of the fly agaric in order to communicate with transcendent beings.
The sound of the Vargan Mushroom is dark, almost mystical and can be creatively modulated with tongue, throat and diaphragm. Her sound is very clean, both in quiet and loud tones. Due to the stable frame this jaw harp is not sensitive to pressure.
Russia is a country with a handful of jaw harp traditions: in Sakha/Yakutia, in the Altai, and in Tuva the Khomus (or Komus) is played; in Bashkortostan the Kubyz is known, and in Western Russia and in the big cities such as Moscow and St. Petersburg one can hear the name Vargan. An overview.
