Tuwa Bugle

The bugles (signal horns) “Tuwa” are caused to sound by the vibration of the lips, similar to a trumpet. The Tuwas are so called natural horns or natural trumpets which are used as calling and signal instruments. They don’t have any finger holes or keys, and they produce only one single and powerful tone. Similar instruments are in wide use not only in African countries or in Vietnam. In Bolivia and Peru animal horns are known as “Pututo” and are played when cattle herding or during seedtime festivities. Similar natural horns in North Argentina are called “Kullkull”.

The water buffalo horns and cowhorns available at DAN MOI have a powerful and far-carrying sound. They are played without a mouthpiece, and they recall the signal of fanfares, but sound a bit wilder and more rasp.
