"Happy Birthday to You" is THE birthday song par excellence, because the melody and the lyrics can be hummed or sung by everyone. When you turn the little crank on this music box, the birthday classic sounds in a charming, nostalgic way.
The original American version was written about 130 years ago by the sisters Patty and Mildred Hill as a welcome song for their kindergarten. Today, people on all continents sing "Happy Birthday" in the original or in one of the countless regional translations.
The melody sounds even stronger when you free the little musical mechanism from its lovingly designed box. Since the mechanism is mounted on a small wooden board, this music box unfolds its sound particularly well when you press it onto a large resonating body, such as a table, a chair or a box.
By the way: The cardboard box of the music box is decorated with the pop art painting "Here's to love" by the New York artist James Rizzi. His mostly urban paintings sparkle with joie de vivre and optimism, are colourful and full of passion. Cheers!
