The small coconut maraca surprises with its delicate yet loud sound. The coconut rattle owes its loudness to its steel ball filling and the coconut resonating body. Coconut not only sounds full and intense, but is also responsible for the multi-faceted carpet of sound that you can create with the maraca. The leather strap on the wooden handle makes the maraca very easy to hold and play for a long time.
Shaken intensively, gently swung or twisted - the small coconut rattle is perfect for varied experiments and improvisation. Of course, you can also play them in pairs to Latin American rhythms or use them in early music education. Even babies and children enjoy the sound of the maraca and love making the rustling and rattling noises themselves.
Maracas (rumba rattles) originally come from the lowlands of South America and the Caribbean. During religious rituals, the shaman plays the maraca to make contact with transcendental beings (spirits). The spirits speak through the rattles, which serve as a medium between the worlds. The maraca has now found its way into Latin American music such as samba, bossa nova and salsa. Here it drives the fiery rhythms, usually played in pairs.
