Édith Piaf wrote the lyrics for the chanson "La vie en rose" ("Life in pink") herself and had it composed by Louiguy (Louis Guglielmi). The song became famous as an anthem for love and "La vie en rose" started its journey around the world, was translated into many languages, interpreted by musicians from many different genres and played in many films. You can find versions by Mireille Mathieu, Andrea Bocelli, Diana Krall, Cyndi Lauper, Lady Gaga and Zaz, to name but a few.
The small box of this enchanting music box is printed with the picture "The Scent of a Rose" by Henri Privat Livemont. The woman adorned with roses is infatuated with the fragrance of the red blossom. The floral ornamentation and the curved lines are quite typical of Art Nouveau painting. For thousands of years, the rose has symbolised love, which is sung about in the melody of this music box.
The gentle melody sounds more powerful when you remove the little musical mechanism from its lovingly decorated box. Since the mechanism is mounted on a small wooden board, this music box unfolds its sound particularly well when it is pressed onto a large resonating body, such as a table, a chair or a Cajon.
