This Russian Vargan from the Urals hand-crafted by Master Glazyrin has two parallel reeds that are screwed in the frame. Creating a well playable twin-reed jaw harp is a great challenge, so the Glazyrin Duo really excites us! Both reeds sound great played individually as well as simultaneously. This Vargan jaw harp really convinces us and it is the best double-reed Jaw Harp that we have found so far.

Russia is a country with a handful of jaw harp traditions: in Sakha/Yakutia, in the Altai, and in Tuva the Khomus (or Komus) is played; in Bashkortostan the Kubyz is known, and in Western Russia and in the big cities such as Moscow and St. Petersburg one can hear the name Vargan. An overview.
