The Ney is one of the oldest continuously played instruments in the world. Its sound is smoky and warm in the lower registers and finely pervasive in the upper octaves. It is made of giant cane (arundo donax) and has six finger holes, including one for the thumb on the back. The Ney is not only played in art music, but also has deep roots in the Sufi tradition, where it symbolizes, with its wistful sound, the search for the connection to the divine. The Turkish Ney is blown sideways via the open, attached mouthpiece "Bashpare" and has countless modulation possibilities within this technique. By moving the lips and the mouth, individual notes can be changed in timbre, intonation and pitch.
Our Ney's are professionally handcrafted in Turkey and fulfil the highest demands.
Although there are some musicians in our team, no one can really play the Ney well. So please listen to this professional musician who plays a similar Ney.
