Small Jaw Harp of the Hutsul people of the Ukrainian Carpats.
Vitalij Ivanovich Vandzhurak is a passionate maker of Carpathian jaw harps, also known as Hutsul Drymbas, and he embodies tradition and the highest quality in the art of Drymba craftsmanship. As the son of the late Ivan Gruzhrak, a respected master of the Hutsul Drymba, Vitalij not only fulfills his father's legacy but also carries it into the future.
Ivan Gruzhrak was a significant cultural figure who recorded the traditional jaw harp music of the Hutsul people for the internationally acclaimed film "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors" (1965). This connection to Ukraine's rich musical history continues to shape Vitalij's work today.
In his father's workshops, using his original machines, Vitalij now creates his own Drymbas. Despite his work as a successful entrepreneur running a bag business, he has made it his life’s mission to keep the valuable craft of Drymba production alive. His passion for the jaw harp drives him to continue and enhance this tradition.
Vitalij loves the Drymba and is determined to preserve the craft of Drymba manufacturing. With each instrument he creates, he contributes not only to Ukraine's musical landscape but also preserves a piece of his Heritage.
