The blued mini Jaw Harp is tiny, only 3.5 cm long, but you can still tell that it is a Tatar Kubyz. The Vakhitov brothers designed the Kubyz Vakhitov Micro with a very small but classic frame that is very stable. This is probably also due to its size, as well as its rather short swinging characteristics. The latter invites you to play the Kubyz Vakhitov Micro dynamically and fast, which it does excellently. It is astonishingly loud and sounds clear, penetrating and almost sweet. By using the well-known modulation techniques, which can be applied even to this small instrument, you can create accentuated sound carpets and amaze your audience.
Micro is the Vakhitov brothers' Kubyz only in its shape. Even if it can't compete with a big Kubyz, it still convinces with its sound and its quick, cheerful character.
Russia is a country with a handful of jaw harp traditions: in Sakha/Yakutia, in the Altai, and in Tuva the Khomus (or Komus) is played; in Bashkortostan the Kubyz is known, and in Western Russia and in the big cities such as Moscow and St. Petersburg one can hear the name Vargan. An overview.
