This 45 pages A5 (21 x 14.8 cm) booklet by Cätlin Mägi covers a short Jaw Harp playing instruction and sheet music for 28 traditional tunes from Estonia.
The first part is a short introduction of the Jaw Harp and a how-to-play. The second part explains the special Jaw Harp notation system written below the staves. The third and main part is the sheet music for 28 folklore tunes from Estonia.
The text is written in Estonian. Nevertheless the advanced jaw harper may be able to understand the sheet music and the notation system used. If not, an online translator can help to decrypt the respective paragraphs explaining it.
The earliest jew's harps found in Estonia was an instrument dug out from Otepää town hill dating back to the beginning of the 13th century. There are several more findings from the 15th and 16th century. It can be suggested that at that time the mouth harp was a popular instrument among peasants.
