This Jaw Harp is a real jewel. The beautiful bronze cast frame depicts the head of an unspecified North American Native with feather ornamentation, bordered on the sides by two grizzly heads.
This Vargan Jaw Harp lies perfectly balanced against the teeth and can be held very well. Together with the long but very dynamic reed, which is especially heavy at the foot due to a spiral winding, this results in a playability that is rarely found.
The sound of the Vargan Glazyrin Indian is rather deep and pleasant in every respect. You can play it loud or soft, all playing techniques work very well. Especially techniques with percussive breathing are a real pleasure.
For this price there is hardly anything comparable on the market. A very clear recommendation.
Russia is a country with a handful of jaw harp traditions: in Sakha/Yakutia, in the Altai, and in Tuva the Khomus (or Komus) is played; in Bashkortostan the Kubyz is known, and in Western Russia and in the big cities such as Moscow and St. Petersburg one can hear the name Vargan. An overview.
