The striking Vargan Spiral has been handcrafted by master Gimadiev from Tatarstan. The frame was designed in the form of a spiral. Spirals are among the oldest geometric ornaments artfully immortalized in stones and probably representing the cycle of life and death. They symbolized life cycles, fertility and birth and were closely associated with femininity in traditional societies.
The Vargan Spiral convinces not only by its symbolism, but also by its brilliant sound, its powerful presence and its psychedelic personality. The sound of this vargan mouth harp can be particularly well modulated with the tongue, whereby the deep, voluminous bass and her intoxicating yet powerful character can be excellently developed. Her impressive size allows it to be slightly pressure sensitive. This jaw harp is suitable for slow, rhythmic playing, while for fast, dynamic melodies it is better to use a different model.
The wooden box carved as a stylized face is an optional accessory.
Russia is a country with a handful of jaw harp traditions: in Sakha/Yakutia, in the Altai, and in Tuva the Khomus (or Komus) is played; in Bashkortostan the Kubyz is known, and in Western Russia and in the big cities such as Moscow and St. Petersburg one can hear the name Vargan. An overview.
