Already at the first sight of this Russian Jaw Harp the heart beats faster. Oleg Shipanov has created a masterpiece with an unusually striking but at the same time simply beautiful design. The exactly worked frame in Yakutian Khomus shape fits perfectly in the hand and can be held very pleasantly due to the handy decor milling.
But above all, this jaw harp is just excellent to play. The dynamics of the sharpened tongue are perfectly balanced. It swings cleanly and even forgives some inaccurate plucking. This Vargan is also suitable for almost all playing techniques - from delicate plucking, tapping, percussive and melodic playing, strong use of breath, to tight strokes on both sides, it sounds very clean. Furthermore, it is tuned comparatively accurate. Their powerful and rousing sound is simply fun and it is a real pleasure to play and listen to.
An individually designed leather cover is included.
Russia is a country with a handful of jaw harp traditions: in Sakha/Yakutia, in the Altai, and in Tuva the Khomus (or Komus) is played; in Bashkortostan the Kubyz is known, and in Western Russia and in the big cities such as Moscow and St. Petersburg one can hear the name Vargan. An overview.
