This Vargan or Drymba (that's the original Ukrainian word for jaw harp) was made by master Martynjuk of Kiev. Traditionally, the Drymba is a typical shepherd's instrument. And so playing this mouth harp really feels like riding through the vast, wild plains of the Dnieper passing grazing herds.
With its soft sound and a rather taut tongue in a medium-heavy frame, this Vargan seems quite similar to the typical jaw harps from the Russian Altai, but is slightly larger.
