This unusual Jaw Harp - hand-forged by the Japanese master smith Ryuji Kojima - is striking at first sight because of its unusual frame design.
The instrument might owe its name "dragon's beard" to the massive, broad limbs. These are also reminiscent of knife blades - edgy and brightly polished. And give the instrument a bold, extravagant look.
The precisely fitted reed, cut from a Japanese pull-saw blade (Okada H-265), magically produces surprisingly loud and dense sounds with a full, soft body when played.
